Imphal, March 05: The Democratic Peoples' Party, DPP has alleged that the Congress is not committed to taking steps for reviewing the proclamation of disturbed area under which the draconian Armed Forces Special Power Act, AFSPA, 1958 is promulgated. Stating that Manipur has been reeling for the past 21 years under various draconian acts such as the AFSPA, the DPP also held the BJP responsible for the Naga ceasefire extension to Manipur and the consequent turmoil the state had faced. The DPP further said that in view of the lack of commitment by the Congress, the party will play the decisive role of a constructive opposition in the present assembly. The party also iterated that it is ready to support any political bloc provided that it is committed to the safeguard of territorial integrity of the state, revoking the proclamation of disturbed area and mandatory consultation of the party on major issues affecting the state. While stating that the BJP should bear responsibility of the Naga ceasefire extension to Manipur, DPP stated that unless BJP tendered a public apology it is not willing to accept the BJP as the leader of the opposition alliance formed by the FPM, MPP, BJP and SAP. The DPP said it will however support any pro-people move by any government in power. It also said that the camp culture in the state for power is condemnable.
