Elite forces trained to counter terrorism

VAIRENGTE (Mizoram), June 3 ? Ensconced in the thick jungles, the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare (CIJW) School here is where Army personnel of the country and elite forces from other countries have been trained to combat terrorism, reports PTI. Brigadier Amrit Kapur, commandant of the CIJWs told PTI that the premier institution has gained more relevance in the wake of growing global menace of terrorism. ??The CIJW school functions as the Army?s nodal instruction facility for training the Indian Army in low intensity operations,?? Kapur said, adding the institution also trained personnel from Rashtriya Rifles, para-military forces, airforce, navy and police organisation. Officers and soldiers from foreign countries including Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Singapore, Botswana, Bangladesh and US have also been trained in the institution, he said. Established on May 1, 1970, the CIJW school has trained 230 battalions, 2294 officers, 8324 JCOs/NCOs and 169 officers belonging to foreign countries. The school has 12 firing ranges for different scenarios including quick response shooting, urban shooting and pursuit, ambush, jungle lane shooting, chance encounter and mobile firing. Language familiarisation courses in Nagamese, Tangkhul, Assamese, Manipuri and Bodo are also conducted in the institution.
