ITANAGAR, June 12 ? The ruling Congress (I) government in Arunachal Pradesh continues to be in a slumber sleep, despite the mass eviction carried out by Assam forest officials against the Arunachalis living in the foothills areas bordering Assam under the pretext of the recent Supreme Court ruling. ?Despite the mass eviction being carried out by the Assam govt. against our people living in foothills, bordering Assam the ruling congress (I) govt. in the state is sleeping?, AAPSU and Papum Pare District Students? Union-who made a tour to some affected areas alleged.
?The Supreme Court in a ruling has directed the nine states governments to stop further encroachment of the reserve forestland from the encroachers in order to save forest. ?According to AAPSU, the Assam government with the help of paramilitary forces has evicted Arunachalis settled well within its territory in many places of Papum Pare district in the last one week. ?Nearly 10,000 people have been rendered homeless as their houses were burnt to ashes besides manhandling our people by officials of Assam Government?, it said, adding,? that is not where the things end. The officials involved in the eviction drive are grabbing costly belongings of the victims, transformer, DG sets, electric poles, teaching aids among other booties?.
