GOYBARI (Kokrajhar), Feb 19 — The Bodo Sahitya Sabha has come a long way since its inception in 1952 and achieved quite a lot of its objectives. Now its main task is to put the Bodo language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Sri Doleswar Boro, president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, said this today while inaugurating the Sonathi Kampha (golden pillar) at Jwhwlao Swmbla Fwthar here to mark the beginning of the 41st annual conference and golden jubilee celebrations of the Sabha.
Sri Boro said the main focus of discussions in the session will be on the history and development of the Bodo language and literature, its drawbacks and how to make Bodo literature rich and vibrant. That apart, our aim is also to develop other associate languages like Rabha, he added. Terming the Bodo Sahitya Sabha as a temple for the Bodos and their only platform through which the Bodo language can be developed, Sri Rabiram Narzary, ABSU president, appealed to the Bodo litterateurs to work hard to bring the language at par with other leading languages in the world.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, Dr Ashish Kumar Bhutani, speaking at the inaugural function, termed it as an auspicious occasion which was being attended by delegates from different corners of the State. Chief Minister Sri Tarun Gogoi will inaugurate the exhibition tomorrow. The book fair will also be opened tomorrow for which about 240 stalls have been put up. Sri Homen Borgohain, president of Asom Sahitya Sabha, and Sri Pradyut Bordoloi, Minister of State for Home, will be the chief guest and guest of honour respectively. A history-cum-literary session is also scheduled for tomorrow.
