ITANAGAR, April 6: ' Mopin' a major festival of the Galo community of Arunachal Pradesh was celebrated in the state with traditional enthusiasm and religious fervour, on Thursday, reports PTI. People in traditional attire assembled at the festival grounds for singing and dancing to propitiate the 'Mopin' goddess for peace and prosperity. Speaking at the function, Public Health and Water Supply Minister Chowna Mein said the state government was doing everything to preserve and protect the cultural heritage of the state, where 26 major tribes lived in harmony, and had taken up an ambitious programme for its documentation. Earlier, Tejum Padu, deputy director of state's higher education narrated the mythological aspects of Mopin festival and released a booklet on Mopin Popir to mark the occasion. The festival celebration committee felicitated Gurje Maro and Tate Yudik of Upper Subansiri for their meritorious service to the community. T Garo, president of Galo Welfare Committee, Tejum Padu, deputy director of the state's higher education department, T Bagra, president of Mopin celebration committee and Mokar Riba spoke on the occasion.
