AGARTALA, Nov 22? A two -member team of German government on Saturday visited some development projects in Kamalpur, Ambassa and Salama of Dhalai district to have a first hand knowledge about the development activities. The team headed by Dr Behrens, German Embassy to India arrived here yesterday to explore feasibility of the investment in the State?s development programme especially Joint Forest Management.
Sources claimed that the German delegation was impressed over the progress of the developmental activities carrying out by the NGOs and self-help groups (SHGs) in the rural areas. After visiting some development projects in interior areas, the delegation would meet government officials of the concerned department including Principle Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) MA Khan on Saturday official sources said adding the State government is hopeful of gaining first ever-foreign funds.
Meanwhile, the German government is planning to rehabilitate 20,000 jhumia families adopting various development schemes in the tribal areas. The development projects came in the backdrop of the State government?s efforts to arrange international funds in order to bring tribal population under the proper rehabilitation package in the coming days.
The State government approached the German government for a relief of Rs 202 crore to rehabilitate tribal population, which included social forestry, rubber plantation, bamboo plantation, fishery and animal husbandry.
