Girl tortured on charge of sheltering UGs in Manipur

Imphal, February 11: A 25 years old girl was hospitalized after she was allegedly brutally tortured by Assam Rifles on the charge of giving shelter to underground elements at Khongjom under Thoubal district. The victim is identified as Khundrakpam Mala Devi daughter of Kh Ibochou of Khongjom Makha Langthabai village under Thoubal police station. She was admitted to JN Hospital after third degree torture after she was picked up from her house on February 7 morning. Family sources, said that on the morning of February 7, AR men came to her house and accused her of giving shelter to underground elements, and demanded she should reveal whereabouts of the PREPAK girl cadres and the finance secretary of PREPAK Khomba. Later she along with her eldest sister in law Nganbi Devi was assaulted by the AR troop and later she was taken to AR camp, the sources said. The sources further charged that she was administered electric shock by the security personnel and later forced to drink a liquid that rendered her unconscious at the AR camp. The former sports minister M Hemanta rescued her in the evening, the sources said revealing that she regained consciousness at Hemanta's residence and thereafter she was admitted to JN Hospital.
