TEZPUR, Nov 9 ? In view of the proposed peace talk with the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), Lt General Anup S Jamwal, General Officer Commanding, 4 Corps and the operational head of the Unified Command Structure said all factors have to be taken into consideration and by formulating policy of give and take on expected settlement may be brought.
Talking to mediapersons here at the garrison headquarter after inaugurating a two day seminar on management of stress related problems in counter-insurgency operations organised by the 155 Base Hospital here, General Jamwal said he is optimistic and hoped that the leaders of NDFB will negotiate for ceasefire with the government.
It may be mentioned that the Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday assured of providing safe passage to the NDFB leaders for bringing back peace in the State. When asked to comment on the proposed talk with the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), the General Officer Commanding expressed desire and said they (ULFA) should also express their desire for talks and to bring back peace in the trouble-torn State.
General Jamwal further said that due to counter-insurgency operations, a large number of soldiers are involved which causes the jawans to undergo a state of stress. Our soldiers meet constant threat to life in CI operations and their military career demands optimum performance. It is only good training and mental robustness which allows to meet and achieve their targets in ?time-bound fashion?, the GOC said and emphasised the need to develop methods of combating stress both at the home front and at the work front.
The continuous Medical Education (CME) organised by the service doctors of 155 Base Hospital was a pioneering effort in dealing with stress related problems in counter insutrugency areas. The hallmark of the CME was the convergence of doctors, administrators as well as families of serving personnel (represented by Army Wives Welfare Association) who came together for the first time to present their points of views.
In the scientific session, Dr Manas Mandal, director DIPR, New Delhi spoke on stress management while Brig (retd) P K Chakraborty spoke on suicide in the armed forces. The AWWA covered issues related to domestic violence, martial discord and management of stress at the family level. Brig P Madhusoodanan, commandant, 155 Base Hospital earlier welcomed the dignitaries.
