Golden jubilee conference of BSS concludes

GUWAHATI, Jan 23 – The golden jubilee conference of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha concluded at Bamphar in Kamrup district recently with a three-day programme. The programme began with flag hoisting, felicitation and book fair inauguration. The flag was hoisted by Sri Kamala Kanta Musahary. In his brief speech, Sri Musahary recounted the writers’ contributions towards uplifting of Bodo literature. He also called upon the youths to devote more for the development of the Bodo people. It was followed by a swahid tarpan programme in which Sri Jitendra Nath Brahma paid rich tributes to the Bodo leaders who laid down their lives in the long Bodo agitation. Later a souvenir – “Airakhi” was released on the occasion. The souvenir was released by Sri Jiten Das. The Chief Minister, Sri Tarun Gogoi also participated in the function. Addressing the gathering, Sri Gogoi said that the State government has accorded top priority for development of the small tribes. He also appealed to the people to join hands with the government in order to carry out development for the State. We must create a violence-free atmosphere in the State so that we can attract foreign investment, the Chief Minister said. Sri Gogoi also hailed the “sahitya sabhas” of Mising, Karbi and Rabha people for their strenuous efforts to upgrade their literatures. A symposium was organised on the occasion which was presided over by Dr Jatindra Kumar Borgohain. Dr Anil Bodo and professor Pranab also participated in the symposium. In the open session, noted writer Dr Mamani Raisom Goswami and Dr Sobha Brahma were felicitated. In her brief speech, Dr Goswami recounted the contributions of the Bodo writers for the Assamese society and appealed to the new generation to devote more for creative writings.
