GUWAHATI, Jan 28 — Some “agents” of the Government of India are trying to meet the leaders of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) for talks and the leaders of the outfit may talk to them shortly. This was disclosed by the NDFB chairman, Sri DR Nabla. In an interview with The Assam Tribune, conducted through internet, the NDFB chairman also spoke of issues like recent killings of non-Bodos in Udalguri and Bijni, talks between the Government and Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT) etc. The following are the excerpts from the interview:
Assam Tribune : According to police and the security forces, your men were involved in the attacks near Bijni and Udalguri. What actually is the position?
DR Nabla : As long as the occupying forces of India harass and kill innocent Boro people, torch our houses, our women and children are stripped, molested and raped even in the places of worship, no Indian civilian aggressors and collaborators can live in peace within Boroland. It is a vicious circle initiated by the Indian military and civil aggression.
AT : According to Assam Chief Minister, you were trying to make your presence felt by attacking soft targets after suffering casualties in the operations by the security forces. He also said that the attacks might be an attempt to destablize the talks between the government and the BLT. Would you like to comment on it?
Nabla : We had been saying that actions and operations are not attempts to make our presence felt but continuity of our struggle for liberation. Ours is a struggle for attainment of historical rights but not to show our mere existence. Everybody knows that it is the Chief Minister who is dilly-dallying the talk between the BLT and the Government by inciting the non-Boro organizations against the process. We would be happy to see a solution of the BLT problem. The NDFB is not trying to derail the so-called peace process of BLT with the Indian Government as is alleged but the fact is that the BLT itself has already derailed from its main objective — the statehood. The ABSU and the BLT have once more betrayed the Boro people.
AT : Have you received any fresh proposal for talks with the Government of India after you made your stand clear on the issue of talks?
Nabla : Besides public statements and calls there are some agents who are trying to meet us. Though we have not received any formal communique from the Indian government we hope to meet and talk to them.
AT : Recently there were reports that the ULFA shifted four camps from Bhutan. Are you planning anything in this regard?
Nabla : May be, by now ULFA have shifted all the camps from Bhutan. NDFB does not have any permanent camps inside Bhutan to plan in this regard.
