GUWAHATI, Feb 3 ? The State Cabinet today decided to offer two options to the Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT) to resolve the stalemate over reservation of seats in the proposed Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
A highly-placed source informed that the State Cabinet today, in its bid to remove the stalemate vis-a-vis creation of the BTC, resolved that the BLT should accept anyone of the two options made available to them to facilitate creation of the BTC. The two options on seat reservation in the BTC being offered to the BLT are : 30 seats for tribals and 10 seats for non-tribals or 30 seats for tribals, five for non-tribals, five for general communities and six for members nominated by the State Government.
It may be mentioned that a delegation of the BLT met the Cabinet sub-committee on the BTC just before the Cabinet meeting today with a new seat sharing formula to resolve the crisis. As per the new BLT formula the proposed BTC should have 30 seats for tribals, five for non-tribals, five for general category and five seats for members nominated by the State Government.
The State Cabinet today accepted the new formula of the BLT with a modification that instead for five nominated members as proposed to the Bodo group, the number has been increased to six nominated members. The source informed that the State Cabinet hoped that today?s decision on seat sharing would find acceptance from the BLT in the greater interest of creation of the BLT without further delay.
