Hostel constructed at DU for Northeast students

IMPHAL, February 21: To cope with the rising problems of accommodation faced by the students of north eastern region, the Northeastern Council, NEC, the apex body working for the development of the region has taken up the task of constructing two hostels, one for boys and another for girls at Delhi University. The 100-capacity hostels being constructed under the promotion of technical education sector of the Northeastern Council will be inaugurated soon, an official release stated today. Mentioning that the Council is also taking up development task successfully in other sectors, the release stated that it is at present taking up the Rs 25 crore project of building a Northeast space application centre at Shillong in collaboration with Department of Space. The centre will have state of art remote sensing and GIS facilities which will help in image analysis and other advanced computing systems of data. Under the Manipur Development Sector too, the council have not only provided computers to 205 schools of the region but also given six-month computer training to teachers selected from those schools since 1994. Towards the promotion of health, the Council has also upgraded the RIMS at Lamphelpat under its sponsorship. There are 100 seats for MBBS and another 89 for PG. The hospital has the capacity of 881 beds and the council is undertaking all efforts to provide Medicare facilities to the people of the region, the DIPR release said.
