Hung dist council in Garo Hills NCP, Cong get 11 seats each

TURA, Feb 15 ? The Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has thrown up a hung council with the Congress and the NCP getting eleven seats each, the UDP three seats, and Independents amassing four seats in the 29 GHADC seat elections. No political party has managed to get a majority in the GHADC elections.

Among the prominent losers are sitting Congress Chief Executive Member (CEM) Winsang Ch Sangma and a host of sitting MDCs. With both the NCP and the Congress getting equal number of seats the UDP with its three MDCs and four Independents are expected to play a crucial role in the formation of the next Executive Committee of the Council.

The Congress managed to get eight seats in West Garo Hills, two in South, and one in East Garo Hills. The NCP got six in West, three in South, and two in East Garo Hills. The UDP got three seats, all in East Garo Hills while Independents got four seats. Among the prominent winners are former CEM Alphonse A Sangma of the NCP from Siju in South Garo Hills. Prominent losers are sitting CEM Winsang Sangma from Bolsong who lost to the NCP candidate.

In West Garo Hills, Independent candidate Apurba K Marak (Independent) defeated his nearest rival Archibald A Sangma of the Congress, In Babelapara Saleng A Sangma of the Congress defeated sitting MDC Augustine M Marak of the NCP, In Amongpara sitting Congress MDC Kenethson Sangma defeated Nanggan Sangma of the NCP, in Tura Congress Candidate Rikseng A Sangma defeated Independent Candidate Martin T Sangma, In Dengnakpara Roster Sangma of the Congress defeated Adolf Lu Hitler R Marak of the NCP, in Boldamgre Binvichand Sangma of the NCP defeated Congress candidate Grace Sangma of the Congress, in Nogorpara Metalson Sangma of NCP defeated Nimarson Momin of the Congress, in Zikzak Ranjit Modak of Congress defeated Premananda Koch (Independent), in Betasing Nripendra Koch of Congress defeated Manabendra Hajong of the NCP, in Asananggre Jamindro Marak of Congress defeated Arwish Marak (Independent), in Shyamnagar Aperson G Momin (Independent) defeated Fozibor Rahman of the Congress, in Raksamgre Joshburdin A Sangma of the NCP defeated Jona Marak (Independent), in Naguapara Mrinal Marak of the NCP defeated Dhormonath Sangma (Independent), in Jengjal Purno K Sangma of the NCP defeated Drewlingstone Marak of the Congress, in Rochonpara Ebelson A Sangma of the Congress defeated Rakman Sangma of the NCP, in Balachanda Clement Marak of the NCP emerged with a huge margin of over 6000 votes against Congress candidate Nalini Hajong, and in Batabari constituency Independent Candidate Roynath Sangma defeated his nearest rival of the Congress Bilestone M Sangma.

In South Garo Hills, former CEM and NCP candidate Alphonse A Sangma defeated Congress candidate Kenadick Marak, in Wagesik Milan M Sangma of the Congress defeated Freederson N Sangma of the NCP, in Silkigre Larsen R Sangma of the Congress defeated Phillip M Sangma of the NCP, in Rongrikimgre Wenison Ch Marak of the NCP defeated Congress candidate Banal Sangma of the Congress, and in Gasuapara Panseng R Marak of the NCP defeated Congress candidate Kishore Marak.

In East Garo Hills Congress managed to gain only one seat from Rongrong Constituency, Silman K Sangma, son of former Chief Minister Salseng C Marak, defeated NCP?s Sukaram Sangma, in Bolsong Brigady N Marak of the UDP defeated sitting CEM Winsang Sangma of the Congress, in Damas Dolly K Sangma of the UDP retained his seat defeating Crilipson R Marak of the Congress, in Kharkutta sitting Congress candidate Mody M Sangma was defeated by NCP?s Rakesh R Marak, in Samanda UDP Candidate Hayward Sangma won against Anderson Sangma of the NCP, in Darugre sitting MDC and Independent Candidate Ashutosh Marak defeated his nearest rival Michael M Sangma of the NCP, while in Williamnagar sitting Congress MDC Mahamsing M Sangma was defeated by Denang T Sangma of the NCP.
