GUWAHATI, April 19 ?The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) has launched a five-year rural industries programme (RIP) in Garo Hills with support from Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) on March 15 at the District Industries Center (DIC), Tura. Sampat Kumar, district planning officer, West Garo Hills district inaugurated the programme. This was stated in a press release. In his inaugural address, Sri Kumar spoke about the importance of entrepreneurship in economic development of a district or a region and also for generation of job opportunities for the youth. He felt that launching of RIP was an important event in the district which will promote new entrepreneurs and help in the emergence of entrepreneurship in the district. He was happy to note that IIE had already set up its field office at Tura and placed an officer to follow up and monitor the performance of the trainees undergoing training organized by IIE. Earlier Dr D D Mali, Adviser, IIE gave a brief outline on IIE and its experience in implementation of RIP in Nagaon and Barpeta districts of Assam. He stated that RIP was an area approach to entrepreneurship development. This approach could create visible impact about the entrepreneurship development efforts made by any agency. At the inaugural function there was about 170 invitees and prospective entrepreneurs. After the inaugural session 120 prospective entrepreneurs enrolled their names for selection for training. And awareness programme was organised for them. In the awareness programme, Dr DD Mali spoke about the need and importance of entrepreneurship. He stated that in might be difficult to fulfil other dreams, but it was not difficult to fulfil the dream to become an entrepreneur.
