GUWAHATI, March 17: As a result of the marked improvement in law and order situation in Assam, the flow of tourists to the State has been steadily increasing particularly in the recent years, an official release stated. The fact that the law and order situation in Assam has registered tangible improvement over the last few years is being recognised by foreign countries too and they have started revising their Travel Advice for tourists desiring to visit Assam. Recently, John Mitchiner, Deputy High Commissioner of United Kingdom in Kolkata has, in a letter, informed Assam Chief Minister P K Mahanta that the United Kingdom Travel Advice would no longer advise British tourists against travel to Assam and that they would amend the existing Travel Advice provisions accordingly. "This is a reflection of the improving security scenario within the State," he said. He also let the Chief Minister know that the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth office website would incorporate this change regarding their stand towards Assam within a few days. The increasing flow of tourists to Assam is also due to the State government's persistent efforts to promote Assam as an attractive tourist destination in its bid to explore the immense tourism potential of Assam and put it to the economic benefit of the State.
