India's maiden rural showcase in NE

ITANAGAR, March 26: Country's first Bharat Gramodaya Darshan Park would be set up at Doimukh in Arunachal Pradesh to propel and showcase rural development, reports PTI. The multi-disciplinary training centre for rural people at Doimukh would be transformed into the BGDP which would be among six such units to be set up all over the country. The chairman of Central Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Mahesh Sharma, laid the foundation of the BGDP project at Doimukh on March 25, a project sanctioned by the Department of Culture, Union government. The initial cost of the project would be Rs 48 lakh and more money would be allocated as per future requirement, he said. Speaking on the occasion, Sharma said since the first BGDP project was being launched in Northeast, people of the region should not think that they were being neglected by the Centre. The training centre, which would be converted into the park, was being run by Arunachal Pradesh Seva Sangh, an NGO. Five such projects would be coming up in other parts of the country with an integrated approach of developing agriculture, horticulture, forestry and animal husbandry as they are the primary sources of sustenance for majority of the population of the country, Sharma said.
