Guwahati, Dec. 21: The Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) has urged the United People?s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) to revoke its war call against the Kukis in the twin hill districts of Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills in Assam. A KRA statement said the Karbi outfit ?must first withdraw its statement on declaration of war on the Kukis?.
?It was the UPDS which had sparked the killings by targeting the Kuki population in the Singhasan hills of Karbi Anglong,? the statement said.
?We are just defending ourselves. We are also for peaceful coexistence, but will not take anything lying down. We have lost many precious lives in this battle of attrition,? the KRA statement said.
The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) had on Friday denied the Kuki Inpi?s allegation that the former was providing logistic support to the KRA rebels.
The Kuki Inpi is an apex body of the Kuki tribe in Manipur.
The Kuki Inpi had said the NSCN (I-M) should rein in the KRA rebels.
?The allegation that the NSCN is providing logistic support to the KRA is totally unfounded and baseless,? the NSCN (I-M) had said in a press note.
It also condemned both the UPDS and the KRA for the bloodshed in the hill districts.
?Killing of innocent children and women for any reason whatsoever is against the principle of international human rights which is to be condemned by all the civilised societies,? the NSCN (I-M) said.
?The NSCN maintains equi-distance not only from the KRA and the UPDS, but also from the Kuki Inpi,? the outfit said.
?What would the NSCN gain by supporting the KRA, or for that matter the other belligerent group?? the NSCN (I-M) asked.
The NSCN (I-M) said the Kuki Inpi should try to bring the warring KRA and the UPDS to the negotiating table to settle their differences instead of playing a ?blame game?.
The Naga outfit said the Karbi and the Kuki outfits would be able to settle the conflict amicably ?provided proper approach is made without any biased attitude?.
