KYKL responsible for shooting teacher

Imphal, January 11: The proscribed KYKL has claimed responsibility for shooting A Debidash Sharma on the leg on January 6 while he was on exam duty at DM College of Arts and Commerce. Stating that the teacher was punished for encouraging the students to indulge in unfair means during the TDC examination, the outfit in a statement today said that the punishment was carried out by a team of the Special Task Force (STF) under the Operation New Kangleipak (ONK). KYKL said that a team of the STF went to DM College of Arts and Commerce on receiving specific information that the students were engaging in mass unfair means. During the inspection the STF team found A Debidash Sharma giving a free hand to the students to copy. For his failure to discharge his duties and for encouraging the students to take up unfair means, the STF team was forced to punish the teacher, the statement added. The outfit further said that mass copying is one of the major ills that has taken a stranglehold on the education system and if quality education is to materialize then the culture of mass copying has to be checked. It is only when teachers, parents and students realize that they cannot cheat that quality education will become a reality, the statement added. KYKL also said that it welcomes criticisms from the student bodies but at the same time also asked the students to search their souls and look inwards. An uneducated crop of students waving degree certificates in their hands is not going to be the answer for the future of the people, it maintained. The KYKL has never meted out punishment without prior warnings and the people knows this, said the statement adding that the outfit is not keen on awarding punishment to anyone but if circumstances force it will not hesitate to pull up the wrong doers.
