KYKL urges Manipuris to resist influx of Hindi-speaking people

IMPHAL, Dec 9 ? Expressing concern over the large influx of Hindi speaking people to the State following the whiplash against them in neighbouring Assam and quit notices served by NNC in Nagaland, the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) has drawn the attention of the people to the danger and urged all to stop further influx and take up appropriate steps to deport those who recently came to Manipur.

The outfit in a statement issued here stated that ever since Biharis started attacking train passengers from the North-east region in Bihar,, the Biharis have been asked to vacate Assam. Over 60 Biharis have been killed in Assam and the ULFA had also issued quit notices in the Hindi speaking people in Assam.

Even neighbouring Nagaland too, the NNC had asked all the Biharis to leave the State, the outfit added. It also said that the majority of the Hindi speaking people have not returned to their home States but have instead infiltrated into other north-eastern States such as Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. ?This is a frightening proportion,? the KYKL said, adding that ?if the large influx of migrant workers from the Hindi belt, that is Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh is not stopped them it would mean the decay and dilution of the unique culture and identity of Manipuri people.

Already some student bodies and voluntary organisations have raised the banner of introducing the inner-line permit to stop the large influx of migrant workers from Hindi belt, said the outfit. ?There are two factors why migrant workers from the Hindi belt come to North-east,? it said and noted them as the push and pull factor. The Hindi heartland is a harsh place for survival, particularly for the lower caste as the caste system is widespread there. It is to escape the life of poverty and oppression that the migrant workers have come to the North-east States like Manipur, where they can earn their livelihood and lead a decent life without any discrimination.

A place like Manipur attracts these migrants workers for have they can find easy employment and earn their livelihood by becoming barbers, cobblers and manual labourers. This is the vacuum that the migrant workers from the Hindi heartland have filled up here. Even today, all the big business houses are controlled by them as establishments located outside the State are reluctant to strike up a business deal with any of the mongoloid people, it said.
