Laldenga's widow nominated for RS seat

AIZAWL, June 28 ? In a dramatic political development, the opposition Congress and the Mizoram People?s Conference MPC decided to jointly nominate Lalbiakdiki, widow of former Chief Minister and underground leader, Laldenga, for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Mizoram, reports PTI. A joint press statement, issued by the two parties here, said that Lalbiakdiki was chosen for the Rajya Sabha seat from Mizoram as her late husband was one of the greatest leaders from Mizoram and she would also be the first woman Member of Parliament from the State.

Asked if she would accept the nomination, Lalbiakdiki told PTI that her acceptance or otherwise did not matter as she belonged to the ruling MNF party and she would only abide by the party?s decision. She is now a member of the executive committee of the MNF. Meanwhile, the ruling Mizo National Front legislature party held a meeting to discuss the party?s official candidate for the coming election to fill the Rajya Sabha seat from Mizoram, party sources said. Meanwhile, the Mizoram Governor, AR Kohli, denied newspaper reports that he had proposed the name of Lalbiakdiki for the lone Rajya Sabha seat. Kohli, who is now in New Delhi, told PTI over phone that he had never made public statements or official proposals to the ruing Mizo National Front to nominate Lalbiakdiki as a Rajya Sabha member.
