Liangmai women's love feast

IMPHAL, April 23: With a series of entertainment programmes, the first ever get-together of the Liangmai women who got married to men of other communities was held at the Inspection Bungalow of Electricity department located at Langol hill this afternoon. The get together of the Liangmai women married to men of different communities which was organised under the aegis of Liangmai Lakpui Society was attended by social worker Khangthuanang Abonmai as the chief guest. Speaking at the gathering Abonmai called upon the Liangmai women who got married to men belonging to different communities to consider themselves as daughters of this soil though their mother tongue is different. Encouraging the inter-tribe marriage among different communities in a trouble torn state like Manipur, Abonmai also requested the Liangmai women particularly those married outside their tribe to initiate peaceful co-existence among the different communities. The main objective of the Love Feast is to establish a closure relationship with one another and also to know each other's problem in their day-to-day life in the state. Though there are reports around 370 Liangmai women who got married outside the Liangmai tribe now settled in different parts of the state, only about half of them turned up for the get-together along with their husbands.
