IMPHAL, April 16: Thousands of state government employees under the banner of Joint Action Committee of All Manipur Trade Union Council and All Manipur Government Employees Organisation launched an indefinite ceasework strike from today in protest against the anti-employee policy' of the present ministry. The office work of various state government departments were paralysed following the indefinite ceasework strike which come into force from today. state government offices like planning, family welfare, untrained teachers,' fishery, tribal development, agriculture, horticulture veterinary, command area development authority, town planning, social welfare, vigilance and taxation wore a deserted look today. Employees of the medical department and college teachers' association however decided not to join the strike though they lent moral support. Besides the employees in the essential services may also join the indefinite ceasework strike. Pasting protest banners even on the wall of Chief Minister's bungalow, the state government employees told The Assam Tribune that the strike is being launched to press the Government to revoke the decision announced by the Finance department on March 14. The joint action committee (JAC) is also demanding their long standing demands.
