Manipur Speaker calls for leaders' meet

IMPHAL, January 19: Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Sapam Dhananjoy, in an effort to reconvene the House, has called a meeting of legislature party leaders of both ruling and Opposition groups in January 20 for a second time. It may be recalled that the Governor of the State Ved Marwah had already wrote to the Speaker S Dhananjoy for an early reconvening of the Assembly session on January 13 last. The meeting of the legislature party leaders of both opposition and ruling will begin at 2 pm tomorrow, sources said. The speaker said he had earlier called a meeting of leaders of the ruling United Legislature Front and the Opposition Manipur Democratic Front (MDF) on January 15, but none from the ruling side turned up for the meeting. The Speaker also served meeting notices to 13 ruling and Opposition members in an attempt to defuse the tension between the ruling and Opposition parties. It may be noted that after the meeting of the legislature party leaders, the business advisory committee may meet to discuss the issue of holding the session.
