IMPHAL, March 9 ? For the first time in the history of Higher Secondary Examination, unidentified armed gunmen attacked some individuals who involved themselves in alleged a unfair means in the ongoing higher secondary school certificate examination which started from Friday. Meanwhile over 20 students were expelled from the examination halls of four different centres for using unfair means. On the fiirst day of the examination yesterday, unidentified gunmen struck and shot three individuals including an invigilators and a helper. It may be noted here that the KYKL, an underground outfit, had earlier warned examination helpers and invigilators not to encourage unfair means and had even ?imposed curfew? around the periphery of all examination centres. The outfit had also issued shoot-at-sight order to any one found violating their diktats. The injured victims were from different parts of the State. The first incident of shooting took place at L Birahari College Khundrakpam in Imphal east while the second incident occurred at Kokching Khunou College in Thoubal district, sources here said. Sources further said that two youths armed with small arms came into the examination hall and confiscated spme notes from the students from the Kakching Khunou College and later pulled up the two invigilators and accused them of encouraging cheating. Finally they were called out from the examination hall and shot at. Dimilarly, two persons including an examination helper and a volunteer out to check unfair means were also shot by some unidentified gunmen at Khundrakpam. Altogether 23,476 higher secondary students incuding 11,071 science & 7126 arts stream students are appearing in Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination this year at 61 examinations across the State.
