Manipuri audio cassette by Bengali artiste makes a hit

IMPHAL, April 5: For the first time in the history of Manipuri modern songs, a Bengali singer has brought out an audio cassette containing ten Manipuri modern songs and has already turned out to be a best seller even among the core Manipuri song listeners. The noted Bengali artiste is none other than Sonali Mukherjee. She was born and brought up in the heart of Imphal city. Sonali holds a post graduate degree in English. Sonali started to sing Manipuri songs since she was in Class-VI and rendered her maiden Manipuri song at a school function. Apart from singing in many musical concerts held at various halls or auditoriums of the State, Sonali Mukherjee has now become one of the favourite singers among the music producers particularly in the film industries. So far she has more than 100 Manipuri songs to her credit. Of them, some of the popular numbers are picturised in not less than nine Manipuri feature films, namely Mandir, Inthoklabi, Anuradha, Lei-Ama, Meichak Nongjugi ahing among others. The new audio release Chithise Mapu Onnare which includes ten Manipuri romantic songs, is her first modern solo album. Hamom Naba is the music director. Each number has its individual nature. The Minister of State for Education(s) Ahongsangbam Biren released the cassette at a simple function at Hotel Excellency here this morning. The audio cassette was produced by Photo Excellency, Imphal.
