Maring body threatens to disaffiliate from UNC

Imphal, February 24: Expressing deep concern over the recommendation of Khoibu Khun as a different tribe outside Maring by the Presidents of various Naga Tribes of Manipur, the Maring Uparap Assembly (MUA) has in a press release threatened to disaffiliate from the United Naga Council. The tribes which have recommended the Khoibu Khun as a different tribe includes Tangkhul Naga Long, Zeme Council Manipur, Liangmei Naga Council Manipur, Poumei Naga Union, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur, Anal Naga Taangpi, Inpui (Kabui) Naga Union, Monsang Tribe Union, Thangal Naga Union, Mayon Naga Council, Tarao Tribe Union, Lamkan-g Naga National Council and Chothe Lim Abom Manipur. Urging the above tribes to withdraw their stand, the MUA warned that they would be held responsible for any untoward incidents that may occur among the Marings as a fallout of the recommendation. The MUA has also urged the United Naga Council to take necessary action against 'the presidents of the above mentioned Unions, failing which the Maring General Assembly would take up necessary actions to disaffiliate itself from the UNC. Condemning the historical report on Maring History submitted by an expert formed by the Hill Area Committee, Manipur Govt, MUA has demanded an apology from the expert committee, failing which the MUA would be forced to launch various forms of agitation. It may be noted that expert committee consists of Dr Kamkenthang Joint Director TD Chairman, Dr W Nabakumar Singh Associate Prof Anthropology MU (member) and Dr Miss P Binodini Lect of Anthropology DM college (member).
