AGARTALA, Jan 28 ? Amid the security alert sounded through out the State following the massacre of 11 villagers by the insurgents of banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) at Mandai Chowmahani village in West Tripura district on Sunday, a massive search operation is on in the area, reports PTI.
Police said the SP (West), Anurag Dhyankar is camping in the area following the brutal killing in which eleven people, including five women and children, were killed. Police said two persons were interrogated yesterday and one Sushil Debbarma was arrested today in connection with the killing who is being interrogated in police custody.
All Security forces in the State, including Army and BSF, were alerted following the killing and the alert still continues. BSF sealed the border and enhanced their strength in the 860-KM long porus border to thwart the attempt of the ultras to sneak into their base camps in Bangladesh and check all kinds of trans border movement of the ultras.
Police said during the investigation it was established that the killing was deliberate and selective and the houses targetted belonged to ruling CPI-M. Some local miscreants who had directly participated in the killing had covered their faces with masks to avoid their identification, police said. Gautam Das, spokesman of CPI-M, alleged that the attack was masterminded by Opposition Congress and its ally Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) to drive out the CPI-M supporters before the Feb 26 Assembly elections and to destabilise the conducive atmosphere for polls.
