GUWAHATI, Dec 20 ? The 48-hour Assam, Boroland and Kamatapur bandh called by the banned ULFA, NDFB and KLO evoked mixed response and partially affected the life in the State today. There was no report of any untoward incident from any part of the State during the bandh period. The bandh which was called by the banned outfits in protest against the crackdown launched by Bhutanese Army on the camps of the ultras in Bhutan, failed to evoke any response in Barak Valley and the two hill districts in the State while it affected life partially in Brahmaputra valley with exception of Kokrajhar district.
However, railway and air services to and from Assam remained undisrupted during the bandh hours today while government run Assam State Transport Corporation run a skeletal service depending on availability of commuters. Government offices, business establishments, banks and other financial institutions, Educational institutions did not function during the bandh period in Bhramaputra valley districts. However private commercial as well as personal vehicles were plying normally in most part of the valley today.
The life was partially affected in the capital city of Guwahati where people were driving their vehicles and private commercial vehicles like autorickshaws, Tata Sumo, trekkers were plying normally in the city. The State government offices barring the State secretariat and Janata Bhawan did not function normally today due to absence of staff. The State government yesterday failed to issue any directive asking the employees to attend office without fail during the bandh period as the bandh was called by the outfits through e-mails sent to the media here late last afternoon.
The bandh failed to have any impact in Barak Valley districts as well as the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and North Cachar in the State where people defied the bandh call. The bandh failed to hit life in most of Nalbari districts including Kumarikata and Tamulpur areas near Southern Bhutan where Bhutanese Army has launched the ?operation flush out? to drive out northeast ultras from their territory.
Our Correspondents add: The bandh failed to evoke any response in Kokrajhar district of Bodo heartland in the State where it was business as well for the people barring in Basugaon and Bengtol areas. All the business establishment, educational institutions, government offices, banks etc functioned normally in the district.
However, the bandh disrupted life in Upper Areas including Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar and Jorhat districts where all institutions and establishments remained closed during the bandh period. In North Banks areas of the State too, the bandh evoked only partial response and passed off peacefully. The bandh was, however, total in Jamuguri , Sootea and Dhekiajuli areas in Sonipur district.
