GOSSAIGAON, Feb 20 – The people of Gossaigaon civil sub-division have expressed satisfaction over the North East Frontier railway authorities’ sympathetic attitude for sanctioning ‘model railway station’ at Gossaigaon. As per information available here, the chief commercial manager, NEF railway Guwahati vide official notification No. C/555/0-53/PL/Pt-II dated 15 January 2003, informed the local MLA Prof Hamendra Nath Brahma that after close examination of the earlier memorandum submitted by him (MLA) the railway authority has sanctioned ‘model station’ at Gossaigaon instead of Srirampur. It has also mentioned that Gossaigaon being sub-divisional headquarter with many important offices, a large population and number of railway travelling passengers, the NEF railway authorities re-considered its earlier decision to install model station at Srirampur. It is noteworthy that after upgradation of Gossaigaon railway station into a model one, people’s earlier demands like stoppage of Kamrup Express, Shifung Passenger and other mail trains would be fulfilled within a very short time. Sources said that the works of the model station will be executed in a phased manner as per five year plan. The first phase of works will start from March, 2003.
Meanwhile, the people here gave a loud praise to the local MLA Prof Hamendra Nath Brahma for his able leadership efforts in sanctioning the model station.
