Mopin celebrated at Arunachal

ITANAGAR, April 5?Mopin, a major festival of Galo community of Arunachal Pradesh is being celebrated today throughout the State, reports PTI. Rice powder is used in greeting each other during the festival known as ?Mopin Giddi?. Speaking as chief guest state Power Minister Lechi Legi described the festival as harbingar of peace, prosperity and happiness also a pre-harvest celebration by propitiating the Mopin goddess for bounty. Vice-Chancellor of Arunachal University Dr K K Dwivedi was the guest of honour on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Former director of IPR and editor of local English daily Echo of Arunachal Lummer Dai died at Dawn Town hospital in Guwahati following a brief illness yesterday, family sources said. He was 62 and left behind his wife and a son. Dai was a prolific writer and had four Assamese novels to his credit. He was awarded by Assam Sahitya Sabha for his novel Kainar Mulya (bride price). His body is being brought here today and will be kept in his residence for the public to pay their tributes to the departed soul.
