Imphal, Feb. 15: The security ring around the BJP?s Manipur unit president and Lok Sabha MP Thounaojam Chaoba Singh was tightened as the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup?s (KYKL) deadline for the party to expel him ended today.
Meting out the ?death sentence? against Chaoba Singh for his alleged activities against the KYKL, the militant organisation asked the BJP state unit on January 29 to expel him from the party by February 15.
The outfit has warned that it would target all the BJP leaders if they failed to expel Chaoba Singh within the deadline.
Security for all the four BJP legislators has been strengthened in view of the KYKL?s threat, a police official said. He said CRPF personnel were posted at Chaoba Singh?s official residence in addition to the Manipur Rifles guards.
The Lok Sabha MP on Thursday appealed to the KYKL to pardon him, but the outfit has yet to issue any statement in this regard.
In another incident, unidentified assailants hurled a hand grenade today inside the official residence of state food and civil supplies minister Pheiroijam Parijat Singh. No one was hurt as the grenade failed to explode. It was the third incident in a series of attacks on the residences of state ministers over the past five days, causing serious concern to the police.
Chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh?s residence at Athokpam in Thoubal district was attacked on Wednesday.
