Move for Sattriya promotion forum

GUWAHATI, Jan 1 – The Assam government has submitted a proposal to the Sangeet Natak Akademi for the setting up of a Sattriya Dance Promotion Forum for the propagation of the dance form of the State. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said in a statement that a Rs 43.87 lakh action plan would be implemented by the State Culture Department for the preservation and promotion of the dance form. Gogoi further said that his government was giving special importance to preservation, protection, discussion, development and propagation of the traditional art and cultural forms of the State. The Cultural Department of the State has also drawn up special schemes to highlight the indigenous culture of the various tribes and communities of the State. “Special importance is being given to the documentation, preservation and development of the cultural traditions of the people of the State”, he said.

He pointed out that the historical building of the Jyoti Bharati Cultural Centre of Tezpur will be restored and renovated by a specialised committee comprising representative of the National Museum and Archaeological Survey of India and the Centre has been urged to provide the fund required. The National Museum has also been urged to provide assistance for the development of the Tai Museum in Sibsagar.
