SHILLONG, July 8 ? To pacify discontended MLAs after the downsizing exercise, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee would urge Chief Minister to consider introducing ?rotation? system among ministers for the remaining term of the present government. MPCC executive committee which met under the chairmanship of party president SC Marak here on Tuesday, discussed the political situation in the State in the wake of trimming of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance Government led by Congress, party sources said here on Wednesday.
The size of the ministry was reduced from 39 to 12 yesterday in accordance with the provisions of the 91st Constitutional amendment. Although the party got a lion?s share of nine ministers out of 12, some of the members expressed their resentment over the ?raw deal? meted out to them. Many MLAs who were not accomodated in the new ministry wanted an ?explanation? from the Chief Minister and the MPCC president on the selection ?criterion? for the pruning exercise.
Besides mooting ?rotation system? for ministers, the meeting also decided to urge the Chief Minister to give ?fair? representation to MLAs during political appointments in various state-run institutions, boards, corporations and committees. The MPCC executives resolved to urge the party high command to depute a secretary from the North-east to assist the general secretary in-charge of the North-east to look into the affairs of the region.
