MR men beat man to death at Litan

Imphal, March 02: One person was beaten to death by two MR jawans at Lungangching, Litan, under Ukhrul district this morning around 9.30 am, according to reports reaching here. The deceased has been identified as PS Wingnayu Tangkhul, 35, hailing from Maram, presently residing at Lungangching. According to family sources, the victim was called out by two 6 MR jawans from his home this morning. The sources alleged that the victim was hit at his head using a wooden stick and that his body was later thrown into the Thoubal river some distance away from his home. The two MR jawans involved were identified as E Samuel of Kangkham village and Samreo of Tuensang who are presently posted at 6 MR Litan post. It is reported that the villagers of Litan captured E Samuel after the incident and handed him over to Litan police station. However, the other MR jawan managed to escape. The dead body of Wingnayu was fished out of Thoubal river by the police and villagers of Litan later in the morning and brought to RIMS morgue for autopsy. In yet another incident, a person who was abducted by suspected militants from Sepiang, Sapermeina on February 21 was found dead yesterday evening from S Buning, two kms from Sapermeina. The deceased, identified as Ngamkhulun alias Vompu Hangsing, 28 son of Thongnang Hangsing of Saikul bazar, was the chairman of the Sadar Hills Sports Association. His body bore signs of torture when recovered, according to a report. The motive behind the killing is not known.
