NEW DELHI, May 25 ? The merger plans between Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) with the Congress Party has been temporarily put on hold and as the Congress Party is closely watching the developments in Manipur. A senior Congress leader acknowledging that the merger of the MSCP with Congress Party was on the cards, said the proposal has been stalled owing to certain difficulties that have arisen. One of the hitch is former Union Minister of State, Chaoba Singh, who is under threat of the underground outfits. The militant outfits have served a deadline of May 21 on the MSCP to oust Chaoba Singh from the Party. ?As of now the MSCP is under tremendous pressure to sack Chaoba Singh, who is the Party president. The moment the party merges with Congress then the pressure would shift to Congress, which we do not want at the moment,? the leader said. The leader said they are watching the developments in the State and basically buying time to see if MSCP manages to resolve the problem on its own. Chaoba Singh who was dropped from the NDA after MSCP snapped ties with NDA flew down to the capital from Manipur along with his party colleagues is pushing hard for the merger to avoid political isolation.
