Myanmar intrudes on no man's land

Imphal, May 28: Yet another tussle along the Indo-Myanmar border is on the card after the Myanmarese Government have set up a shopping complex on a stretch of land adjacent of Moreh Gate number 2 that falls within the 'no man's land' between the two countries. Disclosing this, an official source told The Sangai Express that the matter has been highlighted to the Union Home Ministry by the State Home Department to press the Myanmar Government to dismantle the pucca structure and vacate the 'no man's land' zone. The Chandel DC had on earlier occasions intimated to his counter part in Tamu to have the no man's land vacated as that infringes upon the Indo-Myanmar border. However nothing positive was forthcoming from the side of the Myanmarese authority. The matter was highlighted to the Union Home Ministry after the State Principal Secretary (Home) DS Poonia went to Moreh on May 25 to have a first hand account of the whole thing, said the source. A written missive has even been sent to the Union Home Ministry to get the Myanmarese Government to vacate the no man's land. The source further said the matter would be discussed with the North East Special Secretary, Home Ministry, Ajit M Nimbalkar who is slated to arrive here tomorrow. The Special Secretary will also call on the Governor at 6 pm tomorrow at the Raj Bhawan. The Special Secretary is also expected to hold meeting with top ranking Government officials to discuss the law and order situation at 3.30 pm. He will also meet the Chief Minister tomorrow at 3.30 pm. The Special Secretary will leave for Aizawl on May 30, said the source.
