KOHIMA, April 23? The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NACC) is in the process of preparation of an action plan for each States of North-east for performance evaluation, assessment and accreditation of higher education institutions, reports PTI. Prof VN Rajshekharan Pillai, director of NACC which is an autonomous institution under University Grants Commission, on Thursday said that NAAC has conducted seminars at different states in the past 10 months to prepare state-wise as well as a national action plan with an objective to promote awareness of quality assurance in higher education system. Delivering the key-note address at a two-day national seminar-cum-workshop on ?Improveent of Quality of Education in Nagaland? here, jointly organised by Nagaland University and NAAC, Prof Pillai said this initiative, taken through the collaboration of higher education departments and varsities of various states, would be completed in the next few months. In the north-eastern region, seminar-cum-workshops were held in Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura to formulate the action plans for these states and the deliberation here would prepare a plan on the same line for Nagaland, he said. Nagaland Governor Shyamal Datta, who inaugurated the function, urged the participants to ponder over whether general higher education needed continued support from the government or to support only those who are fit for the purpose under the changing global scenario. Pointing out that in the severely competitive environment and in the knowledge-based society quality education is key to progress and prosperity, the Governor said a well-coordinated effort is the need of the hour to get the maximise from the higher education.
