DIMAPUR, Feb 14 ? With the inauguration of the district headquarter at Peren by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the decade-old dreams of the people of the region turned into reality on Wednesday last. Carved out of Kohima district, Peren also known as ?Rice Bowl of Nagaland? became the 11th district of Nagaland amidst thousands of Zeliangrong tribesmen shouting slogans ? ringtei lo (long live) Peren district'.
?Speaking on the occasion Rio, said, ?Creation of a district is only a means to achieve the objectives of accelerating the administration closer to the people?. Expressing confidence that with the inauguration of the district, a new era of peace and prosperity will begin for the people of Peren area, he said, the task does not end here and that the real work has to start now for the Government and for the people of the new district.
?Revenue in the state is generated not just by promises but through tangible action of the DAN Government, he said that be it on the law and order front or in developmental activities, the Government is moving at a fast pace to achieve results that will make the life of a common man better. Emphasis is on performance and quality, he added.
Exhorting the people of Peren, the Chief Minister said they have to work hard to make their district developed and progressive and that they have to consciously promote education, agriculture, horticulture and other vocations where the people of the area has comparatively better strength. Rio also said that the people of Peren district are among the most blessed people and with optimum utilization of land, hard work and competitive production of agro-product and Peren can become the richest district in the state of Nagaland.
Minister for Tourism & Land Revenue Vats? Meru one among the two representing Peren area in the State Assembly said, ?the decade old dream of the people has come to a reality today.? TR Zeliang, Minister for Geology and Mining, the other representative of the district in the assembly said that Peren area was neglected by the State as well as by the Centre particularly in the field of education and economic development for a long time, but with the inauguration of the district the people of Peren will be entering into a new era of development.
He also said that inauguration alone is not enough and hoped that the new district and its concept will be on the top agenda of the Government. Others who spoke on the occasion included L Haokip, ex-Interim Body Member and Minister for Local Self Government Noke Konyak. A galaxy of cabinet ministers and legislators were also present on the occasion.
