Kohima, Jan. 28: In a departure from the traditional style of campaigning in the state, the Nagaland People?s Front (NPF) is trying to croon its way into the voters? heart.
?Congress party, Naga manuh bikri na korbi? (Congress party, don?t sell the Naga people), sings Vibeileituo Kets in ?Save Nagaland?, an audio album released by the NPF yesterday as part of its poll campaign.
While in the plains of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar parties have used Jaunpuri jingles to tickle the mind of voters, this is a maiden musical campaign for Nagaland.
The album, with the NPF?s symbol ? the rooster, has eight compositions in English, Nagamese and Tenyidie to woo the voters. Among its other compositions are Neiphiu Rio and Marching together, written by Rio. The album was played amid much excitement at a party meeting today. ?Well, we worked for two months on it,? says Kets, lyricist and composer. Another song, We shall overcome, was composed by well-known Nagamese singer Methaneide. While the young party workers lapped up the lyrics, Rio sang of a ?38,000 crore scam? at a party office opening yesterday.
The lyrics of the song Nagamia kittuo ga are written in Tenyidie and the theme is sovereignty and moral values. Interestingly, the party?s election plank and the Congress publication Bedrock of Naga Society is also a title in the album.
The state has traditionally been used to house-to-house campaigning. Public meetings and rallies have not been common here. A senior worker said this novel method of campaigning will become popular.
On the other hand, the Congress said it would rather be guarded in its style.
?We have not adopted other?s techniques, others will adopt our methods,? said working president, Hokheto Sumi.
