KOHIMA, March 2 – Nagaland Speaker Z Lohe, Deputy Speaker Joshua, prominent sitting Ministers and Congress candidates Imtisungit Jamir, Neiba Ndang, Nillo Rengma, Kakheto, SK Sangtam, P Enyie, Kiyezhe Aye, Zachilhu Vadeo and NDM candidate and former Chief Minister KL Chishi were some of the prominent losers in the 10th Nagaland assembly election while Congress candidates and sitting Ministers TR Zeliang, T Tali and H Chuba were some of the prominent winners.
Several former regional political stalwarts and candidates of main opposition Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) had come back by defeating most of their nearest Congress rivals. The chief ministerial candidate of the NPF, Neiphiu Rio also won from 10 Nothern Angami –II constituency by defeating his nearest Congress rival Zakie-o Metha by a margin of 6067. NPF candidate Shurhozelie defeated his Congress rival Seyiekulie in a straight fight with a margin of 799 votes in 10 Northern Angami-I constituency.
Former Speaker and NPF candidate Thenucho also returned from Chozuoba constituency by defeating his nearest Congress rival Nuzota Swuro by 1871 margin of votes. For the first time, BJP, Samata Party, JD (U) had won their seats this time in Nagaland’s assembly elections. BJP and JD (U) had won two seats each while Samata Party won one seat.
R Khing of JD (U) had defeated his nearest Congress rival and sitting Minister Nillo Rengma in Tseminyu constituency by margin of 1715 votes while Huska Sumi of JD (U) defeated Deputy Speaker and Congress candidate Joshua by 1152 votes in Pughoboto constituency. Samata Party candidate Deo Nukhu in Chizami constituency defeated sitting Assembly Speaker and Congress candidate Z Lohe by a margin of 821 votes.
BJP candidate Dr TM Lotha had won from Wokha Town by defeating his nearest NPF rival A Yentsao Odyuo by a margin of 2592 votes while another BJP candidate from Wakching defeated his nearest Congress candidate and sitting Minister P Enyei by a margin of 451 votes. Former Congress Minister and now NDM candidate K Hollohon from Dimapur III constituency had won by defeating his nearest NPF rival Azheto Zhimomi by 284 votes while another NDM candidate from Zunheboto constituency Hukavi Zhimo won by defeating his nearest Congress rival Kakheho Sukhalu by 127 votes.
