NE gets Rs 36 cr to boost tourism

GUWAHATI, April 29: An amount of Rs 36.63 crore was released by the Union government for development of tourism in the Northeastern region during 2000-2001, PTI release said. Interest subsidy is available to 1-3 star-heritage category hotels in the Guwahati-Kaziranga-Shillong-Tawang travel circuit on loans sanctioned by IDBI, ICICI, SIDBI, IFCI, etc., at the rate of 5 per cent. Besides, expenditure tax has been waived for hotels located in hilly or rural areas till March 31, 2008.
