SHILLONG, April 5: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has sanctioned an amount or Rs 6 crore to the Border Road Development Board for construction or 'inter-state' roads and other roads of 'economic importance' in the north eastern region. The amount is part of a Rs 17.02 crore scheme, sanctioned during March, the NEC said in a press release. The NEC has also accorded administrative approval to schemes amounting to Rs 20.74 crore. The NEC scheme for development of integrated muga project and muga silk industry in Meghalaya received a sanction or Rs 45 lakh as grant besides a loan of Rs 5 lakh. The government of Assam has been sanctioned as grant Rs 49.50 lakh and a loan or Rs 5.5 lakh for a similar muga scheme. The scheme for controlling the Gainadi river for protection or railway and road communication in Arunachal Pradesh received a grant of Rs 104.04 lakh and Rs 11.56 lakh as loan which will go to Assam's Flood Control department for execution. NEC also released Rs 6 lakh as first instalment being NEC's share towards the scheme for strengthening of 'Pragjyotika' Assam Emporium at New Delhi, at an estimated cost of Rs 49.26 lakh. A grant of Rs 20 lakh has been sanctioned to Assam Government for construction of a 60-seat girls' hostel in Government Ayurvedic College, Jalukbari. The Industries and Trade Fair Association of Assam (ITFAA) has been sanctioned Rs 75,000 being the final instalment towards organising the 2nd national-level Shillong Trade Fair. Several health institutions received sanctions from the NEC. An amount of Rs 20 lakh has been granted for the scheme 'expansion of Regional Dental College, Guwahati and Rs 100 lakh for 'expansion of Regional College of Nursing.' A sum of Rs 60 lakh as grant was sanctioned to Assam Government for implementation of NEC schemes at Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. The Meghalaya Government was sanctioned Rs 45 lakh as grant and Rs 5 lakh as loan towards upgradation of Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Centre at Civil Hospital, Shillong. B Barooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati has been sanctioned Rs 107.79 lakh while Rs 35 lakh as grant has been provided as support to J K Saikia Homeopathy Medical College at Jorhat.
