New political party floated

Imphal, December 10: A new political party, named Humanist Party of India, New Manipur State Council has been formed during a meeting held at Sangeet Natya Mahavidyalaya, Takhellambam Leikai today. The Humanist Party of India is a registered political party and has its base at Mumbai. The meeting attended by around 50 persons was presided by retired IAS officer Ch Ibohal. Office bearers were elected during the meeting today. Y Biren has been elected as the general secretary and U Himat as the organizing secretary of the newly formed party. Other office bearers of the party are Vaithingkhui (political action secretary) Md Suleiman (finance secretary), W Tolen (legal affairs secretary) and L Chaoba (publicity secretary). Though a definite decision on who would be the president of the party has not yet been disclosed, press sources said that former Minister Elangbam Kunjakeshore is likely to be elected to the post. The meeting also held exhaustive discussion and took various resolutions for strengthening the base of the party in the State.
