Aizawl, Feb. 10: The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) today justified its attack on the Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) office here yesterday by accusing the university?s director, S. K. Ghosh, of communal bias.
An MZP release said an employee of the institution needs to work without break for 200 days at the same post to be regularised. But Ghosh, it alleged, had transferred Mizo workers in 70 to 80 days, resulting in no permanent Mizo employee at the Ignou.
The MZP also accused the Ignou regional director of siphoning funds meant for bonus of the staff and deducting employees? salary even if they had been absent with his permission. Justifying its action yesterday, the MZP said Ghosh had dumped their request and threatened to close down the institute.
In the MZP attack yesterday, computers and other office appliances had been destroyed at the Ignou office and Ghosh had sustained minor injuries.
On February 6, Ghosh had lodged a complaint with the Aizawl district deputy commissioner Tawnluia, alleging that MZP activists had forcibly gone through the institute?s official documents, and requested police protection.
?I did receive a complaint from Ghosh on Friday. I directed the Aizawl district superintendent of police to take necessary action on the same day and I believe policemen were posted at the Ignou office,? Tawnluia said.
Ghosh was released from the Aizawl Civil Hospital this afternoon. He had been taken to the hospital last evening and kept under observation.
MZP president C. Lalrokhuma, however, said the director was hospitalised at his own request and that he was pulling strings to have him referred to a hospital outside the state.
