NHPC signs agreements for civil works

GUWAHATI, Jan 31 ? National Hydro-electric Power Corporation Ltd has finalized contract agreement for major civil works for the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower HE Project, located in Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh and Dhemaji district of Assam.

The Corporation has signed the agreements with M/s Boguchangesstroy (BGS) (Russia) ? Soyuzgidrospetsstroy (SGS) (Russia) ? Soma JV for construction of concrete gravity dams works at a contract price of Rs 1098 crore and with M/s Larsen & Toubro Ltd. for the construction of power house and water conductor system works at a contract price of Rs 921 crore.

An NHPC release said the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project is being executed by NHPC as a central sector project at a cost of Rs 6285.33 crore with debt equity ratio of 70:30. The equity is being given by the Centre in form of budgetary support and the balance funds are arranged by NHPC as a term loan.

The project, located on river Subansiri, envisages construction of five 9.5 dia diversion tunnels, a 133-m high concrete gravity dam, eight 9.5 dia horse shoe-shaped HRTs, circular steel lined pressure shafts and surface power house housing eight units of 250 MW each, the release stated.

The project is scheduled to be completed in six years time and will generate 7421.59 million units of energy annually.

NHPC has signed the agreements of these works with the above contractors on January 16 and 19 respectively at NHPC Corporate Office, Faridabad, in presence of CMD, directors and other senior officers of the corporation, the release stated adding the corporation has also taken up many other mega hydro projects for investigation and preparation of detailed project reports in North Est Region.
