NLFT-B spreading fake currency in Tripura: CM

AGARTALA, Dec 14 ? Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has blamed the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT-Biswamohan group) for circulating fake currency in the State which was crippling its economy, reports PTI. Besides indulging in killings, arson and kidnappings, NLFT (Biswamohan group) insurgents were spreading fake currency in Tripura to cripple its economy, Sarkar told the Assembly yesterday in reply to a calling attention notice by Nagendra Jamatiya.

?It is a matter of deep concern that the insurgent outfit is now manufacturing fake Indian currency in sophisticated machines in Bangladesh and spreading them in Indian territory,? Sarkar said. The matter came to light when the police raided the house of one Mintu Acharya at Harhardola of West Tripura district on December 9 last and recovered fake Indian currency and currencies of Bangladesh and Kuwait, the Chief Minister said.

During interrogation, Sarkar said, Acharya spoke of one Nantu Das and two other Bangladeshi citizens who had kept the currencies in a brief case at his residence and left the place. Sarkar said the fake currencies have spread in border markets like Bishalgarh, Melaghar, Narsingarh in West Tripura district and Karbuk, Sabroom and Puratan Rajbari markets in South Tripura district. The Chief Minister appealed to the people to be more careful about fake currencies and help the government bust such rackets.
