AGARTALA, March 31— Banned militant organisation NLFT is facing serious crisis following a fierce clash between two groups in Bangladesh camp. A surrendered militant Sunday divulged that at least 13 armed rebels had already left the camp and entered Amarendranagar area in South Tripura in an attempt to surrender before the security forces.
Malendra Reang, a hardcore NLFT militant who fled from Bangladesh camp separately with two more armed cadres, arrived at a Tripura State Rifles camp in Takarjala area in West District Saturday night. Acting on his tip-off the TSR personnel recovered on SLR and huge quantity of ammunition from a hidden place in the deep interior. Malendra informed that while fleeing his two comrades got lost. However, they would also contact the TSF and other security force at a convenient time for surrender.
Malendra divilged that the NLFT was in the throes of serious crisis as many of the rebels were now trying to surrender. Thy also got involved in bloody clashes among themselves. A group of 13 militants which had left Bangladesh camp were moving deep in the interior of South Tripura district. They are expected to surrender soon, he said.
Meantime, one more NLFT cadre Shambhu Debbarma surrendered before the police at Telimaura with a Chinese rifle and a Chinese grenade. Shambhu also had left the NLFT camp in Bangladesh with two others and contacted the police. Police sources claimed that disturbed Takariala areas in West District were now almost sanitized following a special operation launched by the TSR-CRPF jawans. The militants are under tremendous pressure as a proactive flush-out campaign has been launched in the area. During the 10 days, 19 militant collaborators including two hardcores were arrested. These also served a severe blow to militants as tentacles are being snapped systematically in the counter insurgency campaign of the TSR and CRPF, said a police official here.
