AGARTALA, April 23 ? Outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura has of late intensified the activities in several parts of the State targetting the ruling CPM leaders. Close on the heels of murder of four tribals belonging to Gana Mukti Parishad, the tribal wing of the CPM, in West Tripura district the militants in a daring grenade attack at Khowai town last night injured five more. Among the killed tribals are two women. Two senior CPM leaders were injured in the grenade attack. Heavily armed NLFT militants raided the house of Amarendranagar Gram Panchayat chairman and local CPM leader Chandrakumar Debbarma on Sunday. As he was not at home, the NLFT militants kidnapped his wife Mahamaya Debbarma (38), another woman Biskutrani Debbarma, panchayat members Suresh Debbarma and Bikram Debbarma at gunpoint.
Yesterday three bodies were recovered. Body of Mahamaya Debbarma was found today. Even before the shock of mass murder is over suspected NLFT militants lobbed grenades on a senior CPM leader Ranabahadur Debbarma in front of his rented house at around 8.30 p.m. last night in Khowai, Ranbahadur Debbarma, CPM State committee member and Sri Gana Mukti Parishad leader. Four others injured in the attack are Paresh Debnath, Nandalal Debbarma (35), Hemanta Debbarma (40) and Sima Debbarma (15). They were watching Durga Pratima immersion procession on the occasion of Basanti puja when the assailants lobbed powerful grenade at them. All are seriously injured and rushed to GB Hospital. Among them Ranabadur Debbarma and Paresh Debnath are reported to be in critical condition. Eye witnesses said, all the injured five were standing in front of the house of one Aghore Roy at Lalcherra. Ranabahadur Debbarma originally a resident of remote Tulasikhar had to leave his home in the wake of NLFT?s threat and was staying at the house of Aghore Roy for sometime on rent. During the last one year one GMP and CPM leaders in rural areas mainly in Jampujala Block areas are being selectively killed by the NLFT.
