GOLAGHAT, Feb 8 ? The NRL is facing crisis for crude oil in Numaligarh Refinery Limited in the near future and the production will also be stopped, informed newsmen in a press meet held at NRL conference hall by Apurba Sharma, GM (Production). Sharma said that though the NRL has a strength of refining three million tonnes of crude oil last year, the NRL had refined only 2.3 million tonnes of crude oil instead of the capacity and only 1.8 million tonne of crude oil this year. Due to the scarcity of crude oil, the DCU unit has been stopped for more than one month. It becomes more expensive to refine oil in a reduced form.
The Indian Government is initiating steps to supply crude oil to BPL. The Oil India and ONGC is extracting crude oil from the old oildigging centres. He further informed that the NRL has no scheme to establish ancilliary industries as of now. Deepak Chakravarty, DGM (Operation) informed the newsmen about the environmental aspect of Numaligarh Refinery. According to him, the 3 MMT NRL is processing oil fields only. All the conditions put by the MoEoF and the ASPCB have been fulfilled and the required approval taken for implementation of various schemes related to environment protection. Chakravarty also said that work is under way for the environmental impact assessment study for the refinery and the marketing terminal and also a specific study for the Kaziranga National Park through the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur.
Some of the measures for environmental protection taken in NRL are processing of only low sulphur Assam crude, how NOX burner in all factories installation of continuous stacks monitoring system, provision of green belt to arrest emission and noise effluent treatment plans including for primary, secondary treatment facilities etc.
PL Baruah, adviser, HR, said in the meet that the NRL is implementing the Sazal Dhara Scheme with the co-operation of the Government of Assam and also added that water supply scheme have been adopted in Na Pather, Natungaon, Kalioni, Bishnupur, Dhodang areas as a part of their social welfare activities.
PK Khound, Senior Manager, Training and Development, informed the newsmen that the NRL has distributed an amount of Rs 40 lakh among 38 families for the construction of roads, electrification and dwelling houses. Besides arrangement of seminars, workshops, medical camps and awarding scholarship had been done. The meet was attended by AR Baruah, Manager, Personal and Administration also.
