GUWAHATI, Dec 11 ? Encouraged by growing volume of trade and the ongoing ?Look East Policy? with ASEAN , Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) is likely to export diesel to Myanmar soon.
NRL is now in talks with the Myanmar Petroleum Product Enterprise (MPPE) to finalise the deal. ?We have given an attractive package and we are now waiting for their reply?, BK Das, managing director of NRL told this correspondent today. Das further said that Myanmar is keen to buy product from NRL in order to reduce the transportation cost.
A delegation of NRL led by Das held a meeting with the MPPE, a leading oil company of Myanmar recently in which the representatives of MPPE sought help from the NRL to push forward the deal. Giving the outcome of the meeting, Das informed that as NRL is located very close to Myanmar border, MPPE is keen to buy product from India.
? During our presentation we convinced them that the entire demand of North ?West Myanmar can be met by transporting product through road via Moreh ?Tamu border. The MPPE also sought help from the NRL to build a depot at Tamu, border point of Myanmar?, he informed.
It is learnt that total demand of petroleum products in Myanmar is around 3.5 million metric tonne per annum (MMTA) of which 2.5 MMTA is met by local production from three refineries and rest are fulfilled by importing from Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.
? Since our refinery is very near to border point we can meet their requirement and I am optimistic that we will be able to seal the deal?, he added.
